Saudi Aramco has finalised a 49% stake in HUMAIN, committing $2.6 billion in cash alongside technology assets to support Saudi Arabia's expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Saudi Aramco has completed a transaction to acquire a 49% stake in Saudi artificial intelligence company HUMAIN, committing approximately SAR9.9 billion ($2.6 billion) in cash during 2026 alongside AI, computing and digital assets.
The transaction gives Aramco a substantial minority interest in HUMAIN through a wholly owned subsidiary. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) retains the remaining 51% stake and majority ownership.
The agreement brings together the technology investments, expertise and resources of two major Saudi institutions as the Kingdom expands its artificial intelligence infrastructure and digital economy.
Aramco and PIF Consolidate AI Capabilities
The completed transaction follows a non-binding agreement announced by Aramco and PIF in October 2025, when the two organisations outlined plans to combine their artificial intelligence capabilities under HUMAIN.
The final ownership structure establishes PIF as the majority shareholder, with Aramco holding a 49% interest.
In addition to its cash contribution, Aramco is transferring selected AI, computing and digital assets to HUMAIN. Both shareholders are also expected to contribute technical expertise and talent to support the company’s development.
The companies have not disclosed a separate valuation for the non-cash assets involved. Consequently, the $2.6 billion figure represents Aramco’s announced cash contribution rather than a confirmed valuation of its entire stake or of HUMAIN as a business.
HUMAIN Targets Three Gigawatts of Data Centre Capacity
Established in May 2025, HUMAIN is developing an integrated artificial intelligence business covering computing infrastructure, cloud services, advanced AI models and industry-specific applications.
The company plans to deploy three gigawatts of AI data centre capacity by 2030 to meet growing demand for computing resources in Saudi Arabia and international markets.
Its technology portfolio includes ALLaM, an Arabic-language large language model, alongside infrastructure and applications intended for businesses and government organisations.
The planned capacity expansion is a target rather than an indication that the infrastructure has already been completed.
Building facilities at this scale will require substantial investment, technical expertise and supporting infrastructure, making the involvement of major institutional shareholders significant to HUMAIN’s expansion plans.
Aramco Plans Industrial Applications for AI
Beyond its financial investment, Aramco expects to use HUMAIN’s infrastructure and services to expand the application of artificial intelligence across its industrial operations.
Potential applications include systems designed to improve operational efficiency and support advanced digital processes in the energy sector.
Aramco President and CEO Amin H. Nasser said the company had generated $11.3 billion in Technology Realized Value since 2023, with a significant contribution from AI-based solutions.
The figure reflects Aramco’s own reported measure of technology-related value creation and should not be interpreted as revenue or profit generated by HUMAIN.
The partnership could also provide Aramco with opportunities to develop commercial applications for its existing digital and AI assets while complementing its established energy business.
Supporting Saudi Arabia’s Digital Economy
The transaction aligns with PIF’s strategy to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s technology sector and expand the international competitiveness of domestic businesses.
PIF’s 2026–2030 strategy identifies opportunities to integrate investment activities across economic sectors, increase private-sector participation and develop companies capable of competing internationally.
Yazeed A. Al-Humied, Deputy Governor and Head of MENA Investments at PIF, said combining the two organisations’ AI investment portfolios would support technological development, talent growth and intellectual property creation.
For HUMAIN, the agreement provides a new ownership and investment structure as it pursues growth across the AI value chain.
Investment Creates New Growth Opportunities
The transaction illustrates the increasing role of major industrial companies and sovereign investment institutions in financing artificial intelligence infrastructure.
For Aramco, the investment creates a direct link between its industrial technology requirements and HUMAIN’s computing capabilities.
For PIF, the partnership supports its efforts to develop Saudi Arabia’s AI industry while retaining majority ownership of HUMAIN.
The longer-term commercial impact will depend on the company’s ability to deliver its planned infrastructure, attract customers and convert investment into sustainable business activity.
With the transaction now closed, HUMAIN enters its next development phase backed by two of Saudi Arabia’s largest institutions.
