In a bid to enhance workplace efficiency and collaboration, Zoom has announced the launch of its new AI-powered document feature – Zoom Docs. This innovative addition aims to transform the way teams create, share, and manage documents by leveraging advanced generative AI technology. The new feature was unveiled at the company’s annual Zoomtopia event last year and is now available to users as part of Zoom’s Workplace suite.

Zoom Docs integrates AI capabilities directly into the document creation process, enabling users to generate documents from their meetings effortlessly. This new feature automatically generates shareable files, transforming meeting transcripts into well-organized documents. Users can now prompt Zoom’s AI Companion to handle various tasks, including organizing meeting notes, creating tables, generating checklists, and tracking processes and tasks assigned during meetings.

Smita Hashim, Chief Product Officer of the organization, highlighted the significance of this launch in a recent blog post: “Zoom Docs is our first Zoom Workplace product with generative AI built in from the ground up; it effortlessly transforms information from meetings into actionable documents and knowledge bases so that teams can stay focused on meaningful work.” She emphasized that the integration of AI aims to simplify and enhance team collaboration, allowing users to spend less time managing documents and more time engaging in productive work.

One of the standout features of Zoom Docs is its inclusion at no additional cost for Zoom Workplace paid license holders. The move is intended to provide added value to existing customers, making advanced document management and collaboration tools more accessible. The AI Companion within the document is designed to assist users throughout their document management tasks, making the process smoother and more intuitive.

The launch of the feature positions Zoom in direct competition with major players like Google and Microsoft, who have already incorporated AI features into their workplace collaboration tools. By offering AI-driven document capabilities, Zoom aims to differentiate itself and provide a comprehensive solution for remote and hybrid teams.

Earlier this year, the company introduced other AI-powered features, including an AI assistant for summarizing meetings and chats and tools for writing emails and messages. In July, it also launched a workplace automation tool designed to send automated reminders for meetings and scheduled tasks.
